Optima
introduces yet another breakthrough that promises to
set a new standard for the industry. Just as they shook
the lens marketplace with the introduction of RESOLUTION®,
the first and only birefringence-free polycarbonate
lenses, their latest product, COLOR FREE AR – The
Invisible Lens™, is sure to change how all other
AR lens treatments are judged.
It is well known that reflections
and glare rob the eyes of eyeglass lens wearers of
up to 14% of available light and reduce visual acuity.
By reducing reflections and glare, AR lens treatments
allow more light to pass through the lens. The more
light that passes through the lens, the more visual
acuity improves.
Admittedly, great strides have
been made in the quality of AR lens treatments, but
a byproduct of these processes has been an unsightly
greenish, or in other cases, a bluish color cast.
These color casts are not insignificant. “AR
color casts not only have a deleterious affect on
lens cosmetics, they also reduce the transmission
of light and provide less than optimum visual acuity,” says
Nicholas Niejelow, president and CEO of Optima Inc. “Crucial
to improving light transmission through an AR lens
was to eliminate light-absorbing color casts. We
accomplished this by using a totally new patented
process for our AR lens treatment that does exactly
that, and is totally devoid of color. With COLOR FREE AR, Optima has created a lens so clear it appears
virtually invisible, to the wearer and the
viewer,” said Niejelow.
Not only does Optima’s COLOR
FREE AR allow 98.7% of light transmission, a new
industry benchmark, but the additional light transmission
delivers a huge performance benefit, when you consider
that other ARs only allow 98.2% of light transmission.
Keep in mind that each tenth of a percent represents
significant visual improvement to the eyeglass lens
wearer. The wearer not only gains dramatic
cosmetic advantages, but also benefits from improved
night vision, true color fidelity, better contrast
sensitivity, reduced glare from back surface reflections,
improved eye contact for better communication and
reduced eye strain in work settings.
With COLOR FREE AR, Optima not
only improved visual acuity; they’ve improved
wearability, too. Optima’s new state-of-the-art
flash CFT (Cryogenically Flash Treated) process is
applied post hydrophobic oleophobic to provide a
tighter molecular bond. This process makes it more
durable and repellent to exterior effects. “Our
proprietary CFT patent-pending process fills in the
microscopic hills and valleys that make up the hydrophobic
coating layer to create an ultra-smooth surface with
the highest level of surface dirt and smudge resistance.
With it, we achieve a hydrophobic coating that is
one of the highest-rated, with a water contact rating
of 123. After hydrophobic coating and CFT, the Bayer
rating is an amazing 9.1!” said Niejelow.
The wearer benefits from lenses that stay clean longer
and are effortless to maintain, with no “cleaning
haze,” cracking or crazing. And the lenses
are durable enough for children and for those with
active lifestyles.
Further performance enhancements
were made with a hard coating that utilizes a thermally
cured dip coating process. This enhances durability
but, more importantly, guarantees no coating to substrate
index mismatch, resulting in an optically superior
birefringence-free lens.
Optima’s COLOR FREE AR is
exclusively available in RESOLUTION®, winner
of two consecutive OLA awards. RESOLUTION®’s
exclusive birefringence-free manufacturing process
and aspheric and atoric lens design produces the
most optically precise polycarbonate lenses available.
By combining RESOLUTION®, with its superior impact
resistance, lighter weight and thinner lens profiles,
with COLOR FREE AR with its cosmetic and optical
features, the lens wearer ends up with the most optically
superior lenses with the highest lens performance
package possible, at any price, anywhere.
